Vermont Works for Women

Well, thanks to the success of the Hadestown stuff, I'll be working on related projects for the next little while.
Here's a poster for a benefit show coming up.  I'm currently working stuff for the Arden theatre in Alberta, and they are presenting Hadestown ...in 2012, if we're all still around.

return to montreal - songwriting jam with charlotte cornfield

Casa del Popolo had the perfect vibe for writing verses, each in our own world, while passing a sheet back and forth and making couplets like so:

wind in the trees
a message on the breeze
water on the knees
spring is out in steez

professor Darwin Deez
and his dancing fleas
praised the melting freeze
and put away their skis

they turned their faces with a sneeze
and sought the cure for their disease
trudging through a sludge of sleaze
practicing their harmonies

middle, high, and low Cs
for all good things come in threes
'These true chords will be our keys
to honorary PHDs'

Tea Etiquette

“Do not stir your tea in sweeping circular motions. Place your teaspoon at the six o’clock position and softly fold the liquid towards thetwelve o’clock position two or threetimes.”

loft party

Belle Bête, My new project with Charlotte Cornfield and Kathryn Palumbo will see it's psychedelic egg cracked open on Jan. 31st, 2010, up at the special secret loft show.

The tunes are sounding so pretty I just don't know what to do with myself sometimes. I'm sweating, palpitating and generally feeling out of breath and weird. Like I'm not touching the ground. It's ok. It's normal. Normal kid stuff.

Here's a link to the dirty version of the picture.

Real Photos

Brian Grunert, my collaborator on the Hadestown packaging, has just sent me some pretty awesome photos of the cover. I've posted them up on my site.

state of the arts

this guy has been cracking me up lately. him and noel fielding. i think something good is happening these days generally in art and music. prolly the best in general since i've been alive.

i'm currently designing
a hadestown-inspired cover for a great looking theater in alberta.
my 3rd annual poster for the 15th annual bear on the square festival in dahlonega, georgia
and something else very important.

and when that last client reads this they may be perturbed. but they shouldn't be, as the others are just as likely to be forgotten any second now. only to be remembered in good time. i've been cooped up in here too long today. going out to the store was miracle. i started running down the block on the snow and ice, skipping a bit, with an insane laugh. more of giggle, really. glad to be out of the house.

currently preparing arranging tunes for
La Belle Bête. my band, man. it's gonna be verrry psychedelic. we've got our first gig on jan 31st. charlotte cornfield: vocals drums / kathryn palumbo: upright bass. yes, my friends, it is a supergroup. the wonderful tyr jami may sit in from time 2 time on cello.

PASSAGE THROUGH THE ELEMENTS
i've recently unearthed my old giant flipbook adventure from one crazy spring summer of 1993 living illegally in the woods, in place i built for myself in the state park, and working in this one cafe in downtown mill valley, california, with great marble tables...

Tabletop Terrors.

i made a little movie last summer while on a misty magical art-retreat in the wine country in california. not posh, very earthy, poetic. i was staying just outside of Healdsburg proper at the estate of my dear friend and colleague simon jeremiah who can be heard doing some hamlet off the top of his head in this one.

Grammy Nomination.

I'll be posting on here now, more than the facebook, ideally. Anaïs Mitchell and I dreamed up a bunch of images for her Hadestown folk opera packaging, and now that selfsame packaging, which we worked on with Brian Grunert at Righteous Babe Records, has been nominated for a Grammy. I think we're going to make the most of it and go have fun in LA this February.

The first edition of the linocuts from the album is mostly sold out now and I'm patiently awaiting the arrival of more linoblocks and a little press to make some new ones. Also in production is a giant silkscreen poster of the cover image. That's something Anaïs and I have talked about since the image was made. A spread of the album package can be seen here.
